Since Sonika’s husband is planning to go to South Africa like Aalia, Sonika shares the phone number of her husband with Aalia. Later during the trip aalia discovers that her boyfriend rohit is married and is heartbroken and returns the diamond ring, which viren shah then gives to his wife sonika. Srimoti is friendly with him, yet he leaves and then stops replying to her. Then srimoti finds out he is married to an american woman, and when she tells her mother, her mother tells her that she had an affair with arijit ghose and he is srimoti’s biological father.
The piano teacher is one of the few stories which discuss the financial problems of senior citizens, especially those who live alone, who have limited income, yet have to pay all their expenses. So some of them work even in their old age so that they remain financially independent. The other stories in this book of short stories are also very well written and interesting
