The book Ishq in Aligarh, (Love in Aligarh) is a typical teenage romance based in the city of Aligarh. The hero and heroine Shahid and Alvira come from very different social backgrounds, and have taken admission to a coaching center for getting admission to a medical college. The hero Shahid comes from a poor family, his father is a clerk, though he is doing well academically and is a topper. The good looking Alvira is from a wealthy business family in Lucknow is away from her home for the first time, living in a hostel, and her father wants her to spend some time with them in Lucknow.
After the exams are over, Alvira returns to Lucknow and Shahid follows her there, living in a room which he has obtained with the help of his friend. However the brother of Alvira , who comes from a high status Nawab family and his associates spot Shahid and Alvira at various places, together in the cinema and other places. The brother visits the room, sees the shabby condition of the room, objects and threatens Shahid to write a letter in his handwriting. They then separate, though both of them are adversely affected by the separation. What happens next forms the rest of the story..
The book also describes the coaching for the medical entrance exam, how much effort, money and time people are spending to get admission to medical colleges, living in hostels far away from home, joining coaching classes, answering exams . The first story is set in the year 2016, and the second story is set in the year 2023, and the narrator switches between the different stories
Aman is an engineering student who makes a lot of effort to raise funds for his friend Rishav who is very ill, and requires money for medical treatment in the 2016 story. In the process he becomes famous, and gets coverage in the media which makes the principal of his college Biyani jealous and angry. He humiliates and insults Aman, expels him from college, and ensures that he does not get admission to any other engineering college. This highlights a major problem faced in India, when a person becomes famous he or she is targetted for harassment and persecution, as a number of powerful people become jealous of the famous person.

Spinning into oblivion is a rather unusual book about evil and good spirits. For centuries people have speculated about the existence of spirits and ghosts, and this is one of the few books which tries to analyse it logically. San is a typical NRI, in his fifties, working in Oman, and visiting Dubai for office work when he makes a trip to the desert with his wife and daughter. While watching a dance performance, the tanoura, which involves spinning he sees shameless forms, who are trying to distract the main dancer Mansour and push him, when he tries to join the dance.
Later he also receives a letter from his daughter talking about the spirits which she saw during the person. Curious he meets the dancer Mansour who has met with an accident which will take him three months to recover. He founds out that Mansour is originally from Turkey and then visits Turkey trying to solve the mystery of the shapeless forms which are visible only to him, Mansour and a few others. Mansour is from Konya in Turkey, where founder of Sufism, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi died in the thirteenth century, and Tanoura is considered to be a form of meditation in Sufism
There meets Mansour’s grandfather, Mahmoud, who is widely considered to be a reincarnation of the founder of Sufism, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. How he solves the mystery forms the rest of the book. The book is interesting as it discusses human nature, why some people are very kind and nice, while others with the same background, same family may have a very different nature. One of the interesting theories propounded in the book says that the area where the person was born affects the nature of the person to a very great extent. When a person dies,his soul leaves the body and enters the body of the baby born in the area.

The book 300 Brave men Book 1 : 1641-1660 when compared to other books on shivaji like Sriman Yogi by Ranjit Desai, this is a less comprehensive account of Shivaji’s rise to power and ends in the year 1660, It traces his story from the age of 11 when he visits Bangalore where his father Shahaji is posted, serving the Adilshahi rulers of Bijapur till the time he establishes Swarajya and controls a number of forts in Maharastra with Rajgad as the head.
However the book is interesting because it discussed in great detail, the methods used to over power a more powerful and wealthier enemy, fighting in the mountains, where the enemy was not familiar with the terrain. It also shows that how years of atrocities were the main reasons why the maratha people chose to rebel and side with Shivaji, who had a small army. The book title “Rantings of a Mad Man” is rather misleading as it is a collection of the viewpoints of the author on wide range of subjects from money to food . The author performs a large number of shows was born in a fairly well known family in the entertainment sector, is the son of the music director Sardar Malik and the brother of the well known music director Anu Malik The views expressed in the book are probably similar to those of most indian men with a similar background and age , however most Indian men lack honesty and pretend to be honest truthful saints . He repeatedly talks of how money is the most important thing in life.
One advice which he gives is Dont sell your youth, which is very relevant today, as the indian intelligence and security agencies are ruthless in stealing the identity, money and resume, of those who have worked very hard when young for their relatives, friends and sex partners.
