The book 300 Brave men Book 1 : 1641-1660 when compared to other books on shivaji like Sriman Yogi by Ranjit Desai, this is a less comprehensive account of Shivaji’s rise to power and ends in the year 1660, It traces his story from the age of 11 when he visits Bangalore where his father Shahaji is posted, serving the Adilshahi rulers of Bijapur till the time he establishes Swarajya and controls a number of forts in Maharastra with Rajgad as the head.

However the book is interesting because it discussed in great detail, the methods used to over power a more powerful and wealthier enemy, fighting in the mountains, where the enemy was not familiar with the terrain. It also shows that how years of atrocities were the main reasons why the maratha people chose to rebel and side with Shivaji, who had a small army.
