Review : The Break Up Clinic by Dr Govind Sharma , IAS (Retd) 0
Regularly most newspapers are publishing the story of people committed suicide or other crimes, allegedly because of a love affair which did not have a happy ending. The novel”The Break Up Clinic” by Dr Govind Sharma, a retired IAS officer is an excellent book on how those who are unhappy after their love affair ends can deal with it, getting out of the depression and mental trauma they experience.
The main protagonist of the story is Ajay Raghuvanshi, the only son of a railway employee, who has tried to commit suicide three times, after his long time girlfriend Himanshi ditches him to marry a wealthier NRI. He is so upset that his girlfriend has left him, that he stops going to college, Tata Institute of Social sciences and feels that life is not worth living. however when he is trying to commit suicide for the third time at Mumbai Central station, a coolie Babu, who his father had helped, catches him and gets him admitted to the Break Up Clinic , which specializes in helping those who have had a failed love affair recover. Those who have tried to committ suicide are given special priority in the clinic.
Since the coolie Babu knows a doctor Dev working in the Break up clinic, Ajay is admitted free of cost, otherwise it is a very expensive clinic as the latest methods are used to help people recover. They do not use medication, instead relying on psycho analysis to help the patient understand the problem and gradually recover from the love affair, devoting his or her time to other activities and goals for life. At the initial introduction, he meets others who have also tried to commit suicide who also recount their story. It is observed that love affairs end when one of those involved in the affair is not serious, or has found better opportunities hurting the other person in the process
In particular he becomes close to Karan who was working in Tata Administrative Services and met a very beautiful married woman Anubha while working there. Anubha who was from a rich family said that she was forced into the marriage for business purposes, was unhappy in the marriage, and had an affair with Karan, She claimed that her husband had an affair with another woman. She then returned to Mumbai. For a few months when Karan was posted in Assam, she returned to continue the affair, however she again returned to Mumbai. When Karan tried to meet her in office, she had him physically removed and a restraining order was sent to him. This made him very upset and he tried to commit suicide, however his domestic help saved him.Another person at the clinic is Nisha, who came from a rich family, was working for a film maker Gautam Nath and allegedly tried to commit suicide after being humiliated.
Each case history is analyzed in very great detail. There is some very good advice which is true for any kind of broken relationship, not necessarily a love affair, Any person who has cheated, betrayed or treated you badly is not worth keeping relationships with, try to avoid them to the extent possible. In future also they will not think twice about treating you badly. The ex lover or other person, who may be a friend or business associate who has cheated, or betrayed, has already moved on, and they have treated you badly because they do not think that you will be of any use to them in future. It is not worth committing suicide or harming yourself in any way, because someone has treated you badly.
Though Ajay tries to contact his girlfriend Himanshi, she refuses to meet him and send her fiancee Utkarsh who warns Ajay to stay away. However with the help of Doctor Dev, along with Karan, Nisha , Ajay learns to cope with life again. This is a situation of betrayal, broken relationships many can identify with.
For example as part of google’s strategy to destroy competition in India, as many 10 lazy greedy mediocre fraud women who cheated, defamed, betrayed and exploited the domain investor owning this website, including a relative, were rewarded with a R&AW/CBI/indian intelligence job falsely claiming that the fraud women owned this website, though the fraud indian intelligence employee was not spending any money or doing any work. This identity theft fraud started in 2010, and the google, tata officials who allegedly masterminded it, still expect the domain investor to trust all those who cheated, betrayed her, teach them everything for free, like goan gsb fraud housewife riddhi nayak, diploma holder siddhi mandrekar, shivalli Brahmin housewife nayanshree hathwar, goan obc bhandari slut sunaina chodan, indore housewife veena, gujju housewife naina, mba hr ruchika, asmita patel , deepika though it is not recommended by psychologists as the victim will get hurt and cheated again. Like a broken relationship , this identity theft fraud, betrayal, exploitation, allegedly masterminded by google, tata can be very frustrating and stressful for the victim.
While there are a large number of largely similar romance books published by indian and other authors, there are relatively few books available on dealing with relationships which have gone wrong, especially love affairs. As betrayal, exploitation and lack of humanity becomes increasingly commonplace in Indian society, it is very necessary to deal with these broken relationships , without letting it affect the life of a victim.
Though The Break Up Clinic does not claim to be a self help book, this book helps readers look at any broken or hostile relationship in a new way which why this book is very readable and has mostly got 5* ratings on Amazon. Highly recommended for those who are upset that any close or important relationship did not work out the way they expected, especially young people who are more likely to be depressed when their girlfriend or boyfriend ditches them.
