Like in other cases, the detective agrees to take up the case, so that the inspector will not interfere and help him for other cases, like matrimonial investigation, fraud, where his clients will help him.
The news of the death of Dr Jha by the twenty feel tall Durga is widely reported in the media, with most people blindly believing the news and worshipping the idol. However the detective and his associates tries to evaluate the matter scientifically, leading to the discovery of the dark secrets of Swami Maharaj, including the death of his devotee Manika Gill after sexual abuse, which the maharaja tries to cover up as a drowning suicide and other tricks to impressive their gullible devotees . This ultimately leads to a police raid on the ashram by inspector singh.
It becomes increasingly clear that the murder of Dr Suresh Jha was an extremely well planned scientific illusion, which he and his associates in the rationalist association had planned combining their knowledge of physics, chemistry, maths, biology to expose the maharaja swami and similar fraudsters. These tricks are widely used by magicians in India and elsewhere to trick people and create illusions. More shockingly with high tech equipment, indian intelligence agency officials are wasting tax payer money to defame, terrorise harmless indian citizens,destroy their memory, cause great pain, without their permission.

Though written in 1935, the book Untouchable could be a true picture of India a century later, as casteism still flourishes, though not so openly. The idealism of the independence era has died, and the mindset of the powerful Brahmin officials in India today remains similar to the powerful brahmins in India 80 years ago. The book is about a day of the life of Bakha, a 18 year old sweeper. He prefers to work with the british as they treat him as a human being, unlike the upper caste Indians who treat him like an animal, and feel polluted by his touch. He is expected to warn people that he is coming so that they do not touch him by mistake and get polluted. It also shows the hypocrisy of brahmins priests, who lust after his good looking sister sohini, yet shout polluted after they have molested her . The open discrimination which he faces, continues even in India today as education and technology has not changed the mindset of the all powerful brahmin officials. It describes his interaction with the salvation army padre who does not discriminate against the untouchable people. In the final section of the book, a meeting of Mahatma Gandhi has been described where he attempts to change the mindset of people against casteism, saying that people should be not discriminated according to their profession or caste.

The book Maharaja : lives, loves and intrigues of the maharajas of India by Diwan Jarmani Dass is an interesting book for anyone who wishes to understand the mindset of people, inequality and the growth of the country, Unlike other large countries like Russia and China which were under communist rule for some time, India made a relatively smooth transition from British rule/ rule of maharajas to a democracy. As a result, in many sections of Indian society, even today the mindset of many of the people has not changed, they behave like maharajas, leading a life of great luxury and ruthlessly exploiting anyone they find vulnerable for personal gain.
The author of the book was a minister in the North Indian states, and had a close glimpse of the life of the maharajas. Realizing that it would be difficult to control a large country like india alone, the British adopted the divide and rule policy ensuring that their puppet maharajas ruled the different states of India. In reality the maharajas delegated all the work of handling the administration of the state, to their trusted ministers who were nominated by the british .
With a large amount of money at their disposal, the maharajas led a life of great luxury, purchasing expensive clothes, accessories, cars, jewelleries, holidaying in Europe and US while many of the citizens of the state which they ruled were extremely poor. They had harems of maharanis , ranis, mistresses and cocubines, who would be more than 300-400 in number wasting the resources of the state they ruled. Intrigue among officials was common to get rid of an unpopular minister or official, and the technique of cutting off all communication to isolate a person, create misunderstandings is widely used in India even today to harass small business owners, professsionals though the maharajas no longer rule.
Today nominally though a democracy, the top government officials, especially in indian intelligence agencies like RAW, CBI and military intelligence are the new maharajas of india today, who cannot be held accountable with great powers at their disposal.
